Portobello's early history began as the owner of Brazil's largest Sugar Plantation. Soon afterwards they also developed one of the finest Apple Orchards in the country. The discovery of a rich clay deposit, in the land they owned, lead them to began manufacturing ceramic tile. With over 120 ceramic tile manufacturers based in Brazil, Portobello competed for the next 20 years to eventually become Brazil’s largest tile manufacturer.
